Summer is right around the corner, and we’re all feeling the pull towards our favorite getaways. Beach and country homes bring many joys, but first there’s some inevitable prep work to do. Being intentional and planning ahead can make this work go faster and more efficiently.
We at Hither Hive have compiled a short checklist of tasks to prepare your summer home.
- Reconnect your services. If you disconnected everything over the winter, contact the local utility and internet companies and have your services turned back on. Set up lawn, pool, extermination, tick and mosquito-spraying and garbage service, if needed.
- Clean and declutter: Give the home a thorough cleaning and organize it for the season. Shake out rugs, furniture cushions and drapes. Donate threadbare linens and towels to your local animal shelter. Organizing closets and pantries in advance saves time for more fun summer activities.
- Freshen Up: Air out all rooms, dust fans and replace AC filters. Turn over mattresses and change bedding. Use a natural air freshening spray for a welcoming scent in rooms that have been closed up for months.
- Stock up on essentials: Make sure you have enough food staples, toiletries, first aid items and other necessities on hand. Swap out any expired spices, medicines and sunblock.
- Prepare outdoor spaces: Clean and maintain patio furniture, grills, and landscaping. Check your deck for any damaged boards.
- Get ready for summer weather: Ensure your cooling system is functioning properly and consider getting your gutters cleaned.
Whether you are heading to the beach, the mountains or the countryside, we wish you a very happy summer. Keep Hither Hive in mind if you are setting up a new summer home or need help organizing your current one.
